RSHE
Intent
Our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum is designed to equip all students with the knowledge, skills, attributes and values they need to thrive both now and in the future. Aligned with the statutory RSHE requirements, the curriculum aims to support students in becoming healthy, safe, resilient and responsible members of society.
Through a carefully sequenced and age-appropriate programme, students develop their understanding of relationships, physical and mental health, personal wellbeing, online safety, diversity, equality and the wider world around them. Our curriculum empowers young people to make informed decisions, manage risk, recognise and seek support when needed, and build positive, respectful relationships based on empathy, inclusion and mutual respect.
By providing accurate, relevant and engaging learning experiences, we enable students to develop confidence, critical thinking and self-awareness, preparing them for successful adult life and helping them to flourish in modern Britain and an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
In RSHE lessons, students will learn under these main areas:
- Respectful relationships
- Families
- Online Safety and Awareness
- Being Safe
- Intimate and sexual relationships, including sexual health
- Mental wellbeing
- Wellbeing online
- Physical Health and Fitness
- Healthy Eating
- Drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vaping
- Health Protection, Prevention and Understanding the Healthcare System
- Personal Safety
- Basic First Aid
- Developing Bodies
How our subject contributes to personal development
The RSHE curriculum makes a substantial contribution to Personal Development by promoting pupils' physical and mental wellbeing, helping them build positive relationships, understand risk, celebrate diversity, and develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to be safe, healthy, respectful and successful members of society. Through this curriculum, pupils are well prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
Enrichment Opportunities and Wider Support
Student Council, Student Ambassadors and Student Leaders are closely aligned to the RSHE curriculum. These opportunities allow students to actively practice skills that they learn in RSHE lessons.
Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from the sex education elements of the RSHE curriculum, only. All other areas of the RSHE curriculum must be delivered to all students in all year groups.
