Uplands Academy Awarded Healthy School Status
We are delighted to announce that Uplands Academy has officially achieved Healthy School Status!
The Healthy Schools approach focuses on improving both educational and health outcomes by evaluating and embedding good practice across four core themes:
- PSHE education
- Healthy eating
- Physical activity
- Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH)
Following a full self-evaluation and valuable insights from our student-led My Health, My School survey, we have demonstrated strong provision and a commitment to continuous improvement.
As a school, we know how important it is that students start the day with a good breakfast. Many Uplands students travel to school via public transport, which means a traditional Breakfast Club hasn't been a viable option, as they often arrive just before tutor-time. However, our Head of Operations and our catering provider, Chartwells were keen to support those who do arrive early, so a breakfast offering was introduced on a trial basis last year. Thanks to its success, we're delighted to say that the service has continued - helping support student wellbeing while contributing to us achieving this award.
Mrs Harrison, Head of Personal Development, commented:
“Achieving Healthy School Status is a fantastic milestone for our academy. It reflects the hard work of our staff and students in creating a learning environment where health, wellbeing, and personal development are truly at the heart of what we do. We’re committed to building on the feedback from completing the School Health Check and continuing to support our students in their growth.”
