Uplands takes part in local Christmas Tree Festival

Published 8/12/2025

We were delighted to be part of the Wadhurst Christmas Tree Festival again, organised by Carillon Cottage to help support the church’s work with young people.

The festival took place in Wadhurst Parish Church on 5th, 6th and 7th December and visitors were encouraged to vote for their favourite tree. A large number of trees were on display, each created by businesses and organisations from in and around Wadhurst.

The decorations for the Uplands Academy Christmas tree were inspired by the East Sussex flag, which features a design of flags and birds. At the heart of this theme is the martlet—a mythical, footless bird symbolising continuous flight, interpreted as representing ongoing effort, exploration, and vigilance.

This powerful emblem reflects our MARK value of Resilience, reminding us to persevere and keep moving forward despite challenges. The colours used in the decorations not only represent the East Sussex flag but also mirror the colours of our school uniform, creating a strong connection between local heritage and our school identity.

These beautiful decorations were thoughtfully designed and crafted by our talented Year 7 and Year 8 students, making the tree a true celebration of creativity, community, and resilience.

A huge thank you to our amazing Art department and Year 7 & 8 students for crafting such beautiful decorations - our tree looks absolutely incredible!
