Uplands Academy once again showcased its strengths in music and drama with a vibrant and heartfelt production of Oliver! JR., performed on 10, 11 and 12 February.
Based on Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist, the much‑loved musical was brought to the stage by 50 exceptional student performers who captivated audiences across three memorable evenings.
Following the success of last year’s Mary Poppins JR., anticipation was high, and the students did not disappoint. Two of the three evening performances sold out, with families, staff, and members of the wider community filling the school hall to support the talented young cast. In addition to the evening shows, the students also performed a special dress rehearsal to four local primary schools, offering younger pupils the chance to experience live theatre and inspiring the next generation of performers.
Mr Connor, Headteacher, praised everyone involved and highlighted the scale of the achievement: “From professional lighting and sound to costumes and sets, a great deal of time, effort and dedication has gone into bringing this production to life. I couldn’t be prouder. Our Music and Drama departments, alongside an incredibly talented cast, worked tirelessly for months to create another memorable and magical production.”
Uplands Academy continues to build a thriving culture of performing arts, giving students invaluable opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, and teamwork. This year’s Oliver! JR. production stands as a testament to the school’s commitment to the arts and the incredible talent of its students.
