Kids' Lit Quiz 2026: A Day to Remember

Published 27/04/2026

On Friday 24th April, pupils travelled to Bilton Grange School in Rugby to take part in the Kids’ Lit Quiz 2026, competing against 19 teams from across the country for a coveted place in the International Final in New Zealand.

Uplands was proudly represented by two teams: one from Year 7 and one from Year 8.

Year 7 Team - Maddie H, Theo R, Esther G, Alba C

Year 8 Team - Arthur N, Millie T, Everlyn B, Eva H

The morning session was fast-paced and challenging, featuring 10 rounds of 10 questions covering a wide range of children’s literature topics — from well-known authors and characters to more imaginative themes, including literary sounds and noises!

Both Uplands teams rose to the challenge magnificently. Each team won a round during the morning session, earning a set of books for their team, a fantastic achievement in such a competitive field.

The Year 8 team went on to qualify for the National Final in the afternoon, placing them among the top eight teams nationally. The final was played “on the buzzer”, with a high-stakes scoring system: two points for a correct answer, but lose two points for an incorrect one. The pressure was intense, but our pupils showed composure, teamwork and deep literary knowledge throughout.

After five gruelling rounds of twelve questions, the Year 8 team finished an impressive 4th place nationally, an outstanding result!

Mrs Underdown, Head of History reflected on the day:

'This was an exceptional performance by all involved. Their enthusiasm for reading, quick thinking, and teamwork were evident throughout the day. Amazing stuff, and we are incredibly proud of everyone who took part.'
